Will AI change everything?

In previous articles, we tried to forecast the changes that the development of the groundbreaking technologies of artificial intelligence could bring. As time passes, we are now learning many things.

However, although the use cases of AI are very diverse, the main change for most of us is that while we used to use the internet to search for information, now we ask the AI much more complicated and refined questions. But this change implies that information, data on the internet is now “moved”, processed much more intensively and faster, which has several consequences:

The immediate consequence is that the demand for processing and storage capacities to data centers is increasing significantly. For this reason, an immense number of new data center construction projects are being developed globally, and existing data centers are forced to change and renew their capacity permanently.

But as processors are multiplying their performance, they also multiply their electric power consumption, by more than 10 times. The enormous increase in electric power demand will force all countries, and the global economy, to redraw their energy policies and infrastructure.

The Iberian Peninsula has a singular, privileged situation in terms of energy, for several reasons, such as its large degree of renewable energy or its port capacities. For these reasons, in addition to the reasons described in previous articles, the Iberian Peninsula has the chance to consolidate as one of the most competitive locations for the development of technologies -including AI- and for many other energy-intensive industries, such as the automotive, the chemical, oil and gas or the industrial manufacturing industries.

Therefore, we still -or even increase now- our optimism about the Iberian Peninsula as one of the global locations with the highest economic development and growth expectations. At Stelvio we continue trying to help the companies in the tech industry to benefit as much as possible from these market opportunities.
